SPLITKNUCKLE

SPLITKNUCKLE is the very first hardcore/beatdown band I’ve been listening to in AGES. I must admit I really dislike this kind of music but I was surprised by the among of people linked with UKHC bands mentionned in DROIDxRAGE, some of them have already answered to interviews here, who seemed to be fond of this band. That’s the main reason I wanted to ask them a few questions, and also because this EP “Nothing Left Unsaid” is a pretty cool record!

REFLECT (Manchester) MINIVIEW

I guess you already purchased JUDGE “Bringin’ It Down” and TURNING POINT “1988-1991” reissues. If so, please check this online demo (and download it for 1£) I discovered like a week ago. REFLECT hails from Manchester and their 4 songs demo is just great, in the vein of the two bands I was previously dealing with, I mean angry and melancholic straight edge tracks. Paolo (vocals) agreed to answer to a few question for DROIDxRAGE. Enjoy!

FADE

by Jean

Don’t wanna write bullshit to introduce my current favorite “non-hardcore” band coming from the UK. Have a read, listen to the band, this shit is dope, and probably different from what you listened to this morning…

MERCY (Stirling, Scotland)

by Jean

MERCY dropped their bandcamp link like a week ago on a FB group. The fact that this band sounded very different from the late bands I’ve listened to really attracted me for several reasons mainly because they can bring a really groovy aspect while going into pretty evasive spaces without being sketchy, I guess it’s because of efficient recordings and good production. Anyway, keep an eye on this band, folks!

2015 UKHC

During the early 2000s, Belgium and Netherlands were kind like a Mecca for Euro hardcore. Bands like NO TURNING BACK or TRUE COLORS, just to name a few, were at their peak and, althought I guess that spirit still exists in all-time NTB audience considering their latest LP “Never Give Up” (released a few months ago on Take Control Records and Kick Out The Jams) and Gert Jacobs (TC) latest band NOT AFRAID, it seems in 2015, England has turned into the epicentre of European conscious punk music especially if, like your (French) servant, you’re into the whole current “concept” of UK Hardcore.
(NB: I’m not a geography teacher so forgive me if these bands do not actually cover the entire United Kingdom map like former punk bands in 1980s Finland for example).

Severed

By Ed

image-18

Our very own Nate Bean’s new joint!

The UK has really stepped up on the metallic hardcore front in 2015. Repentance, Renounced and Breaking Point all dropped big albums whilst Digress, Venom Prison and Day Of Rights all emerged with savage demos. You can add Severed to that list. They just appeared out of nowhere with a venomous three track demo entitled ‘Malice’ that draws heavy influence from late 90’s bands like Fear Tomorrow, Buried Alive, early Hatebreed, All Out War and Ringworm.  Have a listen here:  https://severedct9.bandcamp.com/

Can’t Shut Us Out : Jonny Payne – Control

You know it, everyday there’s a new band popping up to remind you that UKHC is on top. Every band is putting killer records after another and it doesn’t seem they will stop that soon. They’re playing USA and left mainland where it was.  And to top it off, they even named themselves the New Wave Of British Hardcore. Just so you know they’re running the game.
But there’s plenty of other bands coming from the UK that aren’t linked with the New Wave. I’m thinking about bands like GETS WORSE, CLOCKED OUT or PERSPEX FLESH amongst others, who I think are still great bands for example and are a bit underrated. I know, you will say it’s not the same sound and maybe you’re right. But aren’t they bands whom helped UKHC to be where it is? Maybe they don’t do it the “right way”, I don’t know, I’m not living there and only know what I’m seeing through zines/sites.
Anyway, in this category of unknown-bands-that-shouldn’t-be, there’s also Durham’s own CONTROL. I did a little interview with their singer through mail, and I’m glad Ed got me in touch with him. Check this out
